Memory and movement

Blown from the heart of the canvas, subjects of Gérard's pictorial universe are calling directly to us, whether through the depth of a gaze, thedisarming minimalism of a landscape, or the astonishing expressiveness of an animal attitude, particularly through the theme of horses, a favorite subject of the artist.

Gérard's paintings work like an ebb and flow of emotions. The artist first establishes the emotional register of the painting by flooding the pictorial surface in a tide of color. This initial step, realized through various techniques such as tachisme, dilution, and dripping, is developed spontaneously and gesturally, with great freedom of execution. This color surge awakens the viewer's senses and memories, like an echo, to suggest at once the atmosphere and mystery of the painting.

Gradually, the pigments floating in this chromatic effervescence merge to reveal the subject, which then stands out vividly from the initial gesture, in a unique dialogue between abstraction and hyperrealism. The deliberate refining of the composition leaves room for the viewer's imagination. Memory and movement become one, recapturing the essence of the artist's message, the emotion of the moment.

Following the rhythm of the seasons, Gérard's perceptive eye focuses on a world to be rediscovered, revealing the grandeur and nobility of nature and life that surrounds us, in all their splendor and subtlety.
